Jain Population in India
According to the 2011 census, out of India’s population of 1.21 billion, 4.5 million (or 45 lakh) identified themselves as followers of Jainism. This means Jains made up 0.37% of the total population in 2011. The states with the largest Jain populations were Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. In 2024, the number of Jain followers in India is expected to increase to approximately 5.2 million (or 52 lakh).
Jain Population By States and UTs
The percentage of Jain population to the total population is maximum in Maharastra (1.25%), Rajasthan (0.91%), Delhi (0.99%), and Gujarat (0.96%). Elsewhere in the country, their proportion is negligible. Let’s look at Jain Population by States and UTs.

Maharashtra, Rajsthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujrat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi have reported the major Jain population. These states/Uts together account for nearly 90 percent of the total Jain population in the country.
